Best Easy Day Hikes Orange County (FalconGuide)
Published in Paperback by Falcon Publishing Company (March, 2000)
Author: Randy Vogel
Average review score:

Nice Maps and Trail Descriptions
I have taken many of the trails listed in this book and was impressed with the accurate trail maps which include mileage markers, geologic features, and elevations of mountain peaks. Trail descriptions include the distance, estimated time required, start and end elevations, and technical ratings. The book is useful for both mountain bikers and hikers. About fifty pages are devoted solely to trails in the Santa Ana Mountains. Unfortunately, recent development has eliminated some of the trailheads, especially in Aliso & Wood Canyons Park.

Perfect referance book to plan your next ride
I love the book, and refer to it every weekend

The Wild Thornbarrys
The Wild Thornberrys by Adam Beechen

The part that I like was the animals. I like the beavers the most. I also liked the adventures and characters. The characters are
Eliza, Debby, Donny, Maryanne/Mom, and Nigil/Dad. This is a really long book and movie. It teaches you a lot about animals. This is a really good book. You should read it

Warm and Fuzzy
I love this book's happy ending. Through a clever plot featuring some adorable beavers, Eliza and the reader discover together how important family is, and how Valentine's Day can extend to include children as well as parents. The poem at the end would warm any woman's heart!

Between Cross and Resurrection: A Theology of Holy Saturday
Published in Hardcover by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. (May, 2001)
Authors: Alan E. Lewis, John E. Alsup, and Kay Lewis
Average review score:

The Power of Weakness
In this major work of narrative theology, Alan Lewis breaks new ground with his moving and comprehensive exposition of the neglected but vital place of Holy Saturday in the Paschal mystery. Writing passionately but with precision, during his own Holy Saturday experience of temporary remission from terminal cancer, he offers compelling insights into "God's powerful weakness." Prayer, for him, is the "posture of those who foreswear the idolatry of self-reliance and affirm rather the perfection, primacy and power of God." It is only because of God's self-surrender to death, "that those and only those who lose and give themselves away shall find and fulfill themselves." Lewis calls us to a Christocentric catholicity that defies the individualism, nationalism, and group conflicts nurtured by a "secular pluralism." When "power is the expression, not the opposite, of service," the Easter Saturday community will be characterized by "audacious speech as well as suffering silence." Not a book for the faint-hearted, this book, prayerfully pondered, will leave no reader's life unchanged. Lenora Black, OSB

A beautiful book from a beautiful man
I learned more theology from one course under Dr. Alan Lewis than from over 40 years of church sermons. He taught, as he wrote, from his personal knowledge and understanding of Christianity during the months he was living with painful, incurable cancer. As more fully explained in the last chapter of this book, healing is a gift from God. No one person is more deserving of it than another. Diseases are not God's punishments. They happen. I am renewing and reviewing my Christian beliefs during my personal struggles with my dad's end-stage Parkinson's disease and my young cousin's ovarian cancer.

I hope that amazon.com promotes this book because it deserves reading by all thoughtful Christians.

Between Sundays: A Year of Transforming Devotionals for the Toughest Days of Your Week
Published in Hardcover by Howard Publishing (October, 1998)
Author: Shawn Craig
Average review score:

A Great Way To Start My Day!
I was needing a devotion that I could do in the morning before my "official" work and school day started. This book has been perfect for such a time. It has helped me to stay focused during my time with the Lord, and keeps me from getting side-tracked. It has given me good things to think about during my day and it is a great way to start my day with a "full cup." I really enjoy the Saturday devotions, too, as they have specific questions to ponder.(And they are great journaling topics!)

Wonderful personal devotions
It took me a long time as a Christian to come to terms with the idea that the days between Sundays were the tough ones, and that I needed more than an hour on Sunday at church to be an effective Christian and have a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. If I'd had this book sooner, I'd have had a better handle on the concept.

Mr. Craig's devotions (he's the "Craig" in the CCM group Phillips, Craig and Dean) are written with a friendly, 'close-up' style that makes them very accessible to the average reader; I think this would be a good book for a teen group to use.

It's definitely a worthwhile way to grow closer in your daily walk with the Lord.

Bill Kroen "gets a-round"

He performs great cunninglingus but needs to take Viagra to perform like a man. so take a number and bring your little blue pills! Bill is awaiting. And he loves it when you call him Doctor Klinton (Bubba is his rolemodel.)

Great Holiday Gift
This Calendar is loved by golfers as it is all instruction and not just pretty pictures. Golfers love this as a stocking stuffer and I give them every year. This is simply the best golf calendar on the market.

Bing Crosby: Day by Day
Published in Hardcover by Scarecrow Press (December, 2001)
Author: Malcolm Macfarlane
Average review score:

Wow! A treasure trove
Yes, this book carries a hefty price tag and its paltry number of illustrations grates a bit on the nerves. But the content within the covers is absolutely amazing. Any serious fan of Bing will beg, borrow or possibly steal this tome because it's fasincating and detailed.

Do you want to know where Bing was or what he was doing on May 12, 1941? Easy, just flip to the entry for that date. The littlest bit of trivia is included and it makes for sometimes amusing reading. Bing caught four fish on this date in 1956, he played 36 holes of golf at the Bel Air Country Club on this date in 1942... it's all here. It's incredible to realize how multi-faceted Bing was and what a full life he led, truly something to be envied.

Rounding out the book is a complete discography and an index which is complete and easy to follow. This is a "must have" for anyone seriously interested in the career of this laid-back, phlegmatic legend. I highly recommend this beautiful volume.

THE definitive reference guide to the life & times of Bing!
Without a doubt, this is the most comprehensive look at Bing Crosby's activities, literally on a "day by day" basis from his birth in 1903 to his death in 1977, that has ever been published. Malcolm Macfarlane, in what obviously was a labor of love, has painstakingly uncovered every bit of information on Bing's life that he could find. His attention to detail is
impeccable.

To enhance the coverage of Bing's films, radio/TV, and stage performances, Malcolm utilizes countless reviews and press cuttings from various publications. The "show biz Bible", VARIETY, is often quoted, providing a time capsule effect to Bing's life and times. These reviews are, in essence, the history of show business for over half a century, further adding to the appeal of the book.

Indeed this is a book not only devoted (and casual) fans of Bing will treasure, but also those doing research on virtually any other performer of his era. Bing's path crossed with most of them, a fact proven by the extraordinarily detailed index.

Malcolm has also provided the reader with a "fact file", citing milestones of Bing's life. His forty top hit recordings, gold records, feature films, careers in radio and TV are all covered in a general manner. A discography is also provided, listing only the song titles and dates recorded, from 1926-77. Rejected and alternate takes have been omitted.

The only minor disappointment, and it entirely rests with the publisher, is the lack of illustrations to accompany the entries. As it stands, Scarecrow Press devoted a mere 16 pages out of over 800 total to photos. But don't let that deter you from purchasing this fabulous book.

To be sure, this is a book the whole family can enjoy. I, for one, found it amusing to look up milestone dates in members of my family's lives, to see what activities Bing was involved with on those days.

The book carries with it a rather hefty price tag, but make no fuss about it, you're getting a lot for your money.

Very enjoyable
Blackbeard, Terror of the Seas is a very well-written book

This is the most "readable" book on Blackbeard I've read.
Full of facts and legends, this book is very enjoyable to read. Ms Day makes you feel as if you're on-board with the fierce pirate! This is also a very good book for children. My 12 year old has read it twice!

Bless Your Children Every Day
This is the kind of book you can use every day, not just for your own children, but for your friends, for other family members, for yourself! Grounded with scriptural references, this is a very user friendly, time-appropriate book.

Best prayers to pray for your children
I was in a Sunday School class that used this book. I have been looking for it ever since, so I could buy myself a copy.

The Blue Day Journal/the Blue Day Directory
Published in Spiral-bound by Andrews McMeel Publishing (September, 2001)
Authors: Bradley Trevor Grieve and Bradley Trevor Greive
Average review score:

who can resist a frown-y frog?
When I saw this journal I couldn't resist it. Even it's cover (the frown-y frog) makes me smile! It's a great journal with re-affirming quotes and funny animal pictures on every page. It encourages me to write out my feelings when I'm sad, mad...even glad! I love it so much that I can't even reserve it for blue days-it has become an everyday journal for me.
The directory in the back allows you to make lists of your favorite things, activities, places, foods, etc. so when you're feeling crummy you know how to pamper yourself. Just filling out the directory has made me think about what I really enjoy and consider adding more of these favorites to my every day life.

Great for beginning journal-keepers
I bought this journal for my mom, and now I wish that I had gotten one for myself, as well. There are guided questions and lists on one side. Then, you can flip it over and use it as a regular journal. The pictures and quotes are neat and make you smile.

The Blue Spaders - Vietnam: A Private's Account: History of the 1st Infantry Division in Initial Days of the War
Published in Hardcover by Carl W. Bradfield (June, 1992)
Author: Carl W. Bradfield
Average review score:

A GREAT BOOK ON AN IMPORTANT SUBJECT
THE BOOK WAS VERY EDUCATIONAL, I THINK ANY ONE WHO IS IN SCHOOL DOING A REPORT ON THE VEITNAM WAR, OR ANYONE WHO HAS QUESTIONS ON THE SUBJECT SHOULD READ THIS.I LOVED IT.

Very good book!
I also was in Phuoc Vinh, the very same base camp that Carl Bradfield talks about. However, I was there about a year later and the base camp was in very good shape (thanks to people like Carl).

My experiences in Vietnam were not like Carl's at all. And I'm very thankful for that. I must have hit it just right. I arrived in Jan. of 67 and missed out on all that "fun" of setting up the base camp and dealing with the VC who were being displaced by that action. Then I left for home at the end of Dec. 67, and heard on the news about the Tet offensive that I also just missed out on.

Well, sometimes it's good to miss out!
